# The Random Star

> A free random name and number picker for names, numbers, and prizes. No signup. It runs in your browser, and a copied link shows that same wheel to anyone who opens it.

The Random Star picks from a list you type. The official site is https://therandomstar.com/. The page is in English. The price is free (0 USD). It runs in the browser on any operating system.

## Who it is for

Anyone picking a name, a number, or a prize at random from their own list.

## How to start

1. Open https://therandomstar.com/.
2. The list opens with Alex, Jordan, Sam, Riley, and Taylor. Replace them with your own entries, one per line. You need at least two.
3. Press Spin. You can also click the wheel, or press Enter when you are not typing in a field.
4. The page says "The star landed on" and then the result.

For numbers, open the Numbers tab, set From and To, and press Fill range. Fill 1–10 loads 1 through 10.

## What it does

The list holds names, numbers, or prizes, one per line, up to 250 entries. Lines past 250 are left off. A number range longer than 250 is cut to 250, and the page says it is showing 250.

Results can be 1 to 20 in one run. From 2 upward, Unique is on, so each result in that run is a different entry. You can turn Unique off. With Unique on, the result count stays within the length of the list.

Spin time is 1 to 30 seconds. The default is 8 seconds. Open Settings to change it. If the browser prefers reduced motion, the spin is shorter.

Shuffle reorders the list. Clear empties the list and the link.

Copy link copies the page address. The page then says: Link copied. Anyone with it gets this same wheel. The link carries the list and the spinner style.

Remove winner takes that result off the list. When there are several results, the button says Remove winners. Spin again runs another pick. Cancel stops a spin that is still going.

Sound is off until you unmute it. Fullscreen fills the screen.

Spinner styles are Prize, Arrow, Orbit, Halo, Compass, Fan, Bottle, Sun, Ferris, Radar, Saturn, Reel, Tape, Flap, Cards, and Hex. Prize is the one that opens.

The winner is chosen in the browser with Math.random, then the wheel lands on it.

Sound, spin time, result count, and Unique are remembered in this browser.

## Limits

There is no signup and no account. The winner is chosen in the browser, not on a server. The site does not take payment. A list stays on the page. A copied link shows that list, and the spinner style, to anyone who opens it.
